Red Flag Candidate
By Martinez Betheliza
If you are someone who is looking for a new job or you
are wondering if a change in employment is something that
is right for you, you are going to need to start wondering
if you are looking good for your interviews! The job interview
process is one that is normally fraught with fear and nervousness,
but it is an essential job of getting the right kind of
employment and when you are in a place where you are facing
an interview, there are a few things that you should keep
in mind. While you might know all the tips that will help
you get the jobs, are you aware of the things that are
going to discount you right away? Take some time to make
sure that you are not putting out red flags that say, "Do
Not Hire!"
In the first place, do you have all of your contact information
on your resume? If you are missing information like your
telephone number and your email address, you will find
that you are in a place where they are just going to throw
it out. The more time that you spend looking at your resume,
the more blind that you might become to missing information
like this. This means that a fresh set of eyes can help
you avoid some real problems, so consider what needs to
be done. Make sure that you do not miss out on your dream
job just because you made one small, easily correctable
mistake.
Other things that send up red flags include long lapses
of time between jobs. Too many people fail to talk about
why they might have been out of work for months and this
can make a difference. Some employers want to know what
you are doing during that time and how you have helped
yourself move forward. Were you gaining training or certification
during that point in time? They are often concerned that
you might have been doing nothing during that time they
want to make sure that you are not going to flake out on
them when push comes to shove! You might decide that a
skills based resume might be a good idea.
Another thing that you need to look into is how you are
going to present yourself. If you have no career or personal
goals, they are going to dismiss you as someone who is
not going to help their company get to where it is going
to go. Similarly, if you have unrealistic expectations,
you will find that you are looking at getting sent out
the door with a polite no. Unrealistic expectations mean
that you are someone who is not well grounded in the business,
and this can give you problems. Consider what your options
are going to be when you are thinking about moving forward
and showing them your best side.
Finally, just remember to be patient and friendly during
the interview. You are not in a position to demand or to
become irritated, and you will find that if you come across
as being negative, they are going to remember that. Take
some time and make sure that you consider how you are going
to be able to get the results that you need.
