CV (Resume) Writing - How to Establish Your Credibility in 7 Easy Steps
By Edwin J Akpan

There is a way you can honestly write your CV but end up giving room for employers to doubt your credibility. And when your credibility is in doubt, landing your dream job is as good as remaining a dream. You want to avoid this. Here are 7 steps to ensure you establish your credibility in your CV.

  1. Give evidence that you understand the employers' problems, needs, and concerns. Do this by addressing those needs in several sections of your CV. Address them in your CV profile section, address them in your accomplishment statements, educational qualifications, work experience, and so on.
  2. Give evidence of how you solved similar problems in your previous workplace. This is where you need to focus on your accomplishments instead of previous work responsibilities.
  3. State and substantiate the core skills you possess required to solve the employers' problems. Essentially, this should include both your traditional and soft skills
  4. Provide evidence of your qualifications and core competencies to do the job. Ensure you give the dates, degrees, class of degrees and certifications and the institutions you bag them.
  5. Give a strong, convincing reason why the employer should choose you and not any other applicant. Your reason should reflect your understanding of the employers' needs and goals. Be unique about it.
  6. Avoid overstated marketing fluffs and loud claims like world-class, top-rated, uniquely qualified, most reliable, highly qualified, and so on.
  7. Be specific in every claim you make. Don't generalize anything. Instead saying you won many customers, say you won 870 customers in 6 months that led to increase in company's profit.
